Joana Monteiro is a graphic designer and does art direction. Her work recognizes a passion for typography. For construction of graphic images, she makes use of and mixes several techniques. Graduated in Painting and Communication Design (ARCA, Coimbra). Master’s Degree in Graphic Design (University of the Arts London). She studied at the Royal College of Art, London, where she experimented with video and traditional typography. She collaborated with the FBA studio in Coimbra for 5 years. She has been a freelancer since 2007 and has worked mainly with clients in the field of culture. She won the AIGA Justified Award in 2013 and the Sebastião Rodrigues Award for the Portuguese Design Year in 2014. Co-founder of the Types Club, she collaborates with Rui Damasceno, owner of Typography Damasceno. Founder of the Publishing “Editora dos Tipos”, seal through which she published in 2016 the Practical Handbook of the Typographer and, in 2017 Clube Mediterrâneo – twelve frames and a devouring that was the basis for the exhibition Club Med at this year’s AltCom festival.
